St. Luke’s Lutheran Church honors veterans with meal

About 100 meals were served Saturday, Nov. 16, by members of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church to those who have served our country.

The early Thanksgiving dinner was served at the church’s campus at 241 Freeport Road and allowed veterans to either pick up a meal or eat at the venue, enjoying the company of those around them.

Volunteer Brenda Fett described the notion of the event well.

“This day is very small compared to what they have done as a sacrifice for us and our church, that we can have the freedom that we have in our country,” she said.

The event is one way the parishioners at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church serve their communities. Many parishioners volunteered at the event, and others donated the items for the feast, including turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and green beans and pie.

The event that unfolded Saturday is worth recognition because it’s just one more way Butler County residents take time to recognize our veterans. Last week was a full week of events for veterans here in Butler County.

There were monuments dedicated, a parade held and the dinner, just to name a few of the happenings.

All of these happenings support our local veterans — and help raise a new generation of people who we believe will do the same.
