Pharmacist honored for 50 years of service

A.J. “Jake” Winters helped others open 19 drugstores in the Butler County area during his 50 years as a pharmacist.

The Butler County Pharmaceutical Association honored Winters for being a pharmacist for 50 years in the Butler County area on Nov. 20, 1970, even though he was “semiretired” at the time.

At 74 years old, Winters was still active at his two drugstores, Winters Drug Store on North Main Street and Bon Aire Drug Store in Butler Township. He also was known for his business sense, having advised people in the area with the opening 19 stores during his time as a pharmacist.

Winters also was a husband, father, an avid traveler and helped introduce the drug unit at Butler County Memorial Hospital to help those struggling with addiction.
