Gary ‘Butch’ Saylor

Gary L. “Butch” Saylor, 80, of Bruin, passed away in the comfort of his home late Wednesday morning, Nov. 20, 2024.

Gary was born on D-Day, June 6, 1944, in Butler. He was the son of the late William C. and Genevieve Welsh Saylor.

He was a 1962 graduate of Fairview Township/Karns City High School. He retired as a rigger from Koppers Co., INDSPEC in Petrolia in 2002 with nearly 40 years of service. Gary was affectionately known as “Radar” to his many coworkers. He was a member of the Steelworkers Local No. 13300, the Northern Butler County Hunting and Fishing Club, the Butler Fraternal Order of Police, Butler County law enforcement, and was a member of the fire police unit of the Bruin Volunteer Fire Department.

Butch enjoyed boating and water skiing on the Allegheny River. He enjoyed hunting rabbits with his beagles, Tanney and Duke; deer hunting; and hunting groundhogs, and he had a record of 100 groundhogs in one year. He enjoyed spending time fishing at Camp Sherwin in Lake Erie, where he had a permanent site for over 40 years.

Butch is survived by his wife, Norma Huff Saylor, whom he married at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Sugarcreek Township on Jan. 16, 1965. Also surviving are his sons, Gary Saylor Jr. and his wife, Melissa, Richard Saylor and his wife, Terri, and Patrick Saylor and his wife, Brooke; his grandchildren and their spouses, Amber and Brian Hetrick, Kayla and Tom Wieder, Megan and Freddy Yahn, Jared and Kailey Saylor, Courtney Saylor, and Blakelee Saylor; his great-grandchildren, Cahlan Scherer and Brielle Wieder; his brothers and sister, William, Joel, Ronald and Carol; his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Thomas and Joy Huff, and Ronald Huff; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special great-nephew, Tyler Slagle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Thomas and Mary Huff; a sister-in-law, Patricia Huff; and a step-granddaughter, Tera Callihan.

SAYLOR — Private funeral arrangements for Gary L. “Butch” Saylor, who died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, are under the direction of HILE FUNERAL HOME OF KARNS CITY.
