Music an important part of education
With American Education Week recently having taken place (Nov. 18-22), I would like to take the opportunity to celebrate music in our public schools. I specifically commend the Butler Area School District, administrators and music teachers for their unwavering support for music education.
I have had the pleasure of watching two of my children participate in music education throughout their high school careers — in marching band, symphonic band and orchestra. Every performance has been phenomenal and a joy to witness. The dedication to music education is evident through the enthusiasm of the teachers as well as the presence and support of the superintendent and administrators at these events.
Music is a vital part of a well-rounded education. It is motivating, uplifting and therapeutic. Music helps reduce stress and can improve emotional regulation. It enhances students’ cognitive abilities and improves academic performance across other subject areas.
As my second child prepares to graduate, I look forward to enjoying the musical performances throughout the remainder of the school year. Thank you, Butler Area School District, for making music a priority.
