Plant grass at Pullman Park
In response to the Butler Eagle article “City asked to co-sign $400K loan” (Sept. 15, A3), I have a cost savings recommendation for Butler City Council and the board of directors for the baseball field turf service replacement at Michelle Krill Memorial Field at Historic Pullman Park. Cover the existing baseball turf service field with fresh topsoil and spread grass seed at a fraction of the cost.
The original baseball field at Pullman Park was a grass surface.
Krill Field probably could get the topsoil for free from Butler Township plus the cost of hauling. Butler Township is building a park in the Pullman Square Complex and there is a large pile of soil. Then solicit corporate sponsors and baseball enthusiasts to donate money to repair the roof for a tax deduction.
What repair estimates did the Krill Field board use to determine the $400,000? Who owns the Krill Field facility?
Has money been put in escrow for maintenance? What are total daily expenses and total income during the baseball season and offseason?
Fees should be increased for field rentals per game, private room rentals and the food concession company.
Is Krill Field enough of a priority for taxpayers and Butler City Council to take a loan for $400,000?
These suggestions could save thousands of dollars.
