Man charged with possession, evading police
Butler city police charged John J. Kamerer, 50, of Butler, with possession of suspected crack cocaine and resisting and evading arrest after he was seen entering and leaving a house known for drug distribution.
Kamerer was charged with resisting arrest, evading arrest, false identification and possession of a controlled substance following the Nov. 14 incident.
Officers saw Kamerer enter a house known for drug distribution and then leave less than a minute later, according to an affidavit.
Police followed him and tried to detain him on West Walnut Street, but he ran away, according to the affidavit. Officers chased him and ordered him to stop. Police shot him with a Taser when he crossed North Jackson Street, but he kept going, according to the affidavit.
Kamerer stumbled as he ran through a parking lot along North Main Street, and an officer tackled him. On the ground, he kept his left hand in his sweatshirt pocket and struggled to get free, according to an affidavit.
An officer punched him in the face after he didn’t comply with an order to show his hands, and he was handcuffed. Police then found a knotted baggie of suspected crack on the ground where he was tackled, according to the affidavit. Kamerer gave police a false name and birth date, police said.
