With snow expected through the weekend, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 10 is reminding motorists to slow down, pay attention and use caution on roads.

Motorists are reminded that roads will not be free of snow while precipitation is falling. With freezing temperatures, roads that look wet may be icy, and extra caution is needed when approaching bridges and highway ramps where ice can form without warning.

PennDOT asks motorists to allow plenty of space when driving near plow trucks. Also, for their own safety and the safety of plow operators, motorists should never attempt to pass a truck while it is plowing or spreading salt.

In a situation involving winter weather, PennDOT recommends motorists remove all snow and ice from your vehicle; turn on your headlights; use your defroster and wipers to keep windows clear of snow and ice; drive at a speed that suits weather and road conditions; stay in your lane and increase your following distance; do not drive distracted; stay alert and keep looking as far ahead as possible; be patient; and always buckle up.
