High school roundup: North Catholic, Knoch girls basketball teams fall in tip-off tournaments

North Catholic girls basketball started the season 0-2 with consecutive losses in the North Allegheny Tip-Off Tournament.

Greensburg Central Catholic’s Erica Gribble and Jayla Pederson scored 27 and 25 points, respectively, in a 64-44 win over North Catholic in Saturday’s season opener. Brady Wehner scored 12 for NC.

Then Sunday, the Trojanettes lost to Mt. Lebanon 52-46. Brady Wehner scored 17 points and Sam Weir had 10 in the loss.

Thomas Jefferson 77, Knoch 19 The Knights fell to 0-2 at the Montour Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday. Karlee Buterbaugh scored a team-high 10 points in the loss as Kaylee DeAngelo paced TJ with 20 points. Neah Ewing had six points, both on 3s, for Knoch.

Seneca Valley 53, Imhotep 39 The Raiders got 18 points from Gracie Cato and 14 more from Natalie Hambly, including four 3-pointers, in Game 2 of the Play 4 MAE Tournament at Woodland Hills High School. Reece McFadden added 10 points.

Boys basketball

Summit Academy fell to 0-2 with a 53-51 loss to Leechburg in the consolation game of the Leechburg Tip-Off Tournament.

DeMetrius Cosby led the Falcons with 26 points, and Qur’An Fisher chipped in 10.
