The success of the holiday light display in Alameda Park last year led Butler County Parks and Recreation to bring the free activity back this year.

The display opened Nov. 22, right after the department hosted its Santa’s Workshop event, and it will be open until Christmas.

Ashley Helmstaedter, assistant director of Butler County Parks and Recreation, said the display has more lights than last year, and they are all set up in-house.

“We try to add a little bit every year, and we make everything ourselves,” Helmstaedter said.

She said while some light displays are big productions set to music that take several minutes to drive through, Alameda Park’s display is meant to be a quick experience to get people in the holiday spirit. She said, however, that drivers can turn on the radio to get some of the effect of larger light displays.

“This is a steady light display, it might take all of three minutes to drive through,” Helmstaedter said. “You can turn on your local radio and drive through the display to Christmas music.”

The light display is open from 6:30 to 9 p.m., and is free to drive through.
