Dolores Allison
Dolores Marie “Dolly” Allison passed away on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024.
She was born May 16, 1928, in Pittsburgh, and was the daughter of the late Argel G. and Edna A. (Broda) Boggess.
Dolores was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Butler for over 65 years. During that time, she taught Sunday school, vacation Bible school, was a member of the altar guild, women’s Bible study, and church council, serving as an outreach chairperson. After her beloved husband passed away, Dolores made a contribution to her church creating the Wayne Allison Columbarium.
Dolores graduated from Schenley High School in 1946. At the age of 35, she went to Slippery Rock College (now University) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education. She was one of five students to receive a fellowship, which enabled her to achieve her master’s degree in special education. She spent her career teaching in the Butler Area School District and was assigned to plan and implement the first kindergarten class for special education within the district.
Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne L. Allison; her dearly loved daughter, Cheryl L. Allison; and brother, Ronald M. Boggess.
Dolores is survived by two sons, Barry W. Allison (Sherry) of Alliance, Ohio, and Howard J. Allison (Jackie Birckbichler) of Butler; three grandchildren, Alysha Mosby (Jay) of Butler, Sara Lohmier (Jason) of Ohio and Apryl Binkley (Cameron) of Ohio; also, 11 great-grandchildren. All of whom Dolly deeply loved, and she always stayed active in their lives.
Prior to her passing, she was a loved and respected resident at Concordia at Cabot, where she received excellent care from the staff. Her biggest fans called her Grandma! Dolly gave of herself all her life, and was genuinely interested in people, their health, circumstances and well-being. Everyone should have a “Dolly” in their life!
