GPS tracks stolen vehicle to Slippery Rock man’s driveway

A warrant has been issued for a Slippery Rock man after a dirt bike, skid loader, trailer and other items reported stolen from two businesses and a storage facility in Mercer County were found on his property.

District Judge Joseph Nash issued a warrant Nov. 26 charging Derek S. Cameron, 27, with three felony counts of receiving stolen property that state police requested after a GPS unit on the skid loader led police to his property.

Two motorcycles, including a Suzuki dirt bike, were reported stolen from a storage unit on Route 19 in Fairview Township on June 16, 2023, police said in an affidavit.

A 72-inch Erskine power broom attachment, a pallet of rubber mats containing 13 solar panels, and a roll of conductor wire were reported stolen May 7 in Coolspring Township by Westmoreland Electric, according to the affidavit.

On June 5, Lynn Plumbing reported the theft of a 2014 CAT skid loader, a bucket attachment and an 18-foot Appalachian tilt trailer from a construction site in Liberty Township, according to the affidavit.

Then on June 6, a CAT dealer in Murrysville called police and reported a GPS signal from the skid loader showed it was at a home on Weaver Lane in Slippery Rock and had been there since April 3, according to the affidavit.

Troopers responded to the home and found a trailer matching the description from Lynn Plumbing parked in the driveway, the bucket and power broom in the yard, and tire tracks from a skid loader leading to a garage, according to the affidavit.

After obtaining a search warrant, police said they found the Suzuki dirt bike, skid loader, a flatbed trailer, Erskine brush attachment, bucket, an orange Rigid toolbox containing chains and ratchets, cylinders for solar panels, two reels containing wire and four straps.

Police said Cameron was not home when they arrived and didn’t return while they executed the warrant. They have not been able to contact him.
