Slippery Rock Township moving forward with new Dollar General

Slippery Rock Township supervisors John Hines, left, and Paul Dickey approve of new land developments involving building a new Dollar General on Centerville Pike and adding artificial turf to the intramural fields during a meeting Monday night, Dec. 9. Zach Zimmerman/Butler Eagle

SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — Supervisors are moving forward with two land development projects, one of which includes building a Dollar General store.

The land developments approved at the supervisors’ Monday, Dec. 9, meeting includes building a Dollar General at the former site of Red Rock Falls restaurant, 664 Centreville Pike. The restaurant closed in the summer of 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The other development would put in new artificial turf at the Slippery Rock University intramural fields at 239 Harmony Road.

The projects are awaiting approval of certain permits.

According to engineer Dave Neill, the Dollar General project is approved to move forward, contingent on receiving a highway occupancy permit from the state Department of Transportation, as well as a stormwater sewage permit the municipality has to apply for. The board signed off on documentation for the highway occupancy permit at the meeting.

Neill also told the board the new field turf is good for approval, contingent on receiving a national pollutant discharge elimination service permit from the state Department of Environmental Protection.

Planning commission chairman Tracy Frampton said after the board’s Nov. 12 meeting there were a few residents concerned about stormwater runoff, and a few residents were present at that meeting to express concern. But there was no indication at Monday’s meeting this was still a worry.

Supervisors Paul Dickey and John Hines both approved of the new land developments.

The Slippery Rock Township board of supervisors said new land developments are approved, contingent on receiving proper permits from the state government.
