High school roundup: Sayge Brunst, Moniteau girls win 2nd straight; Slippery Rock, Knoch boys dominate

Sayge Brunst scored 17 points and Maddy Eury added 12 as Moniteau’s girls basketball team won its second straight game, 51-48 over Clarion-Limestone on Friday.

Sophia Fleeger contributed six points, seven rebounds and five steals to the victory.

Boys basketball

In his first game of the season, Seneca Valley’s Tyler Pepin netted a game-high 26 points, but the Raiders dropped the section opener at Fox Chapel 52-41.

Asher White and Caden Kaiser both scored 14 points for the Foxes.

SV fell to 1-6 overall.

Slippery Rock 70, Perry 31 — A trio of Rockets combined for 41 points. Max Kovacik scored 16, Josh Book 15 and Doug Popovec 10.

Kovacik added five assists and Book eight rebounds for Slippery Rock (3-1).

Knoch 74, Valley 39 — The Knights (4-1, 1-0) took control of this section clash early on.

Teegan Finucan tallied 16 points for Knoch, Jackson Bauman had 13 and Roman DeFelice 10.

Cranberry 65, Union 30 — Trent Fleming scored 13 points to lead the Golden Knights (0-3).

The Berries received 14 points from Landon Baker.

Deer Lakes 71, Freeport 36 — Michael Graczyk’s 15 points paced a struggling Yellowjacket offense in the section opener. Freeport fell to 1-5 overall.
