Butler County Veterans In Need organize first ‘Shop with a Vet’ event
Members of Butler County Veterans In Need experienced a new way to give back to the community by shopping with local children for the inaugural “Shop with a Vet” event on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 14 at Cranberry Township’s Walmart.
The organization gave $1,000 to the cause and partnered with the local Walmart, which added another $5,000 in gift cards to ensure each child would go home with a gift of their choosing.
More than a dozen veterans from a mix of service organizations, including the Cranberry Township Veterans of Foreign Wars, Butler Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, participated in delivering plenty of joy in the spirit of the Christmas season.
“They all loved it,” said Butler County Veterans In Need president John Cyprian. “It was a great showing of different veteran organizations coming together. All of them came together for these kids. If you were to ask any of them, they definitely had a good time.”
Cyprian also got in on the action by assuming the role of Santa Claus while guiding children around the store as they carefully picked out their new toys.
