One person was taken to a hospital with minor injuries after a multicar crash slowed traffic to a crawl on Route 422 on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 17.

The crash was first reported shortly after 1:15 p.m. near the intersection of Route 422 and Ringneck Lane in Summit Township.

As many as five vehicles may have been involved in the crash, according to public information officer Bertha Cazy of state police Troop D. A white SUV sustained major front-end damage. A dark gray Toyota pickup truck also was among the vehicles involved.

The cause of the crash remains unknown.

“They were all refusals but one,” said Rob Shuler, chief of the Herman Volunteer Fire Company. “She went to Butler (Memorial) Hospital with minor to moderate injuries.”

She was transported by East Butler Ambulance. State police, East Butler Volunteer Fire Department and Herman Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene.

Traffic slowed to a standstill on Route 422 in both directions immediately following the crash while crews combed through the wreckage. It wasn’t until nearly an hour after the crash when one-lane, flagged traffic resumed, and it took another hour for crews to leave the scene.
