College roundup: BC3’s Josie Russo named All-American; SRU heptathlon athlete earns PSAC award
Freeport graduate Josie Russo was named a National Junior College Athletic Association Division III first-team All-American.
Russo, a freshman middle hitter, led Butler County Community College women’s volleyball to a 25-2 season that ended with a ninth-place finish in the national championship tournament.
Russo had 235 kills and 105 blocks this season. She’s the 14th BC3 All-American and ninth in the last seven years.
Slippery Rock men’s basketball ran its win streak to four with a 105-62 rout of Mansfield on Tuesday. The Rock (6-6, 3-2 PSAC) scored 100 points in a conference game for the first time since 2009 and the 43-point margin is the sixth most in program history.
Luke Howes and Bobby Clifford had career-highs with 23 points, while Howes added seven assists, four rebounds and three steals.
Slippery Rock’s Logan Anderson was named the PSAC indoor track and field freshman of the week.
The General McLane product won the heptathlon with 4,922 points, earning an NCAA provisional mark at the Susquehanna Early Season Multi. He also earned automatic PSAC qualifying marks in the long jump and 60-meter hurdles.
