Photos: Downtown Butler home demolished Tuesday

A home at 222 W. Diamond St. was in the process of being demolished on Tuesday, Dec. 17. Morgan Phillips/Butler Eagle

More than four months after a fire destroyed a West Diamond Street home, demolition of the structure is underway.

The house was reduced to rubble Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 17, after sitting uninhabited since the fire in August, which rendered it unfit for occupancy.

A notice by the City of Butler was placed on the front door of the property in October, declaring the structure unsafe and prohibiting any occupancy.

Alvin Wise, owner of A P Wise Excavating, carried out the demolition. Between the demolition and hauling of rubble, Wise said Tuesday it will be at least a two-day job.

No one was injured in the August fire, which began on an afternoon when the occupants were not home. The fire spread throughout the home, visible from blocks away that day.
