Santa visits Harrisville in annual parade
HARRISVILLE — Santa Claus visited the borough Tuesday night, Dec. 17, accompanied by Mrs. Claus and Sparky the Dog.
The parade was hosted by the Harrisville Volunteer Fire Company and received support from borough police and Superior Ambulance Service. The lineup consisted of a fire engine, an ambulance and a police cruiser.
“It’s just good for the town,” fire Chief Steve Bickel said. “We try to keep everybody happy.”
The parade went throughout Harrisville, going down smaller roads and alleys to visit as many houses as possible. According to Capt. Dave Evans, the parade did a second lap, which deviated from the planned route to visit even more homes.
Bickel said the turnout this year was quite good, and he expressed relief at the good weather. The event was originally scheduled for Dec. 16 but was postponed due to rain.
Members of the Harrisville fire company expressed their love for the annual event, which has been running for over five years. The company expressed its hope to host the parade again next year.
“You get back from your community what you put in,” Evans said.
