Philip L. Peters, 70, of Portersville, passed away Saturday evening, Dec. 14, 2024, at the Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation, Hermitage.

Mr. Peters was born May 29, 1954, in Ellwood City, a son of the late Rev. Calvin J. and Grace E. (Arnold) Peters. Being the son of a pastoral couple, he attended many different schools in various cities including Butler and Titusville, Pa., West Hartford, Conn., and Buffalo, N.Y. He was active during his early years in Cub Scouts and absolutely loved playing Titusville Little League Baseball.

A steelworker for more than 40 years, Philip worked as a machinist at Standard Steel Specialty in Beaver Falls, retiring in 2019. Philip was a born-again Christian and was a student of the Word of God, often being called upon to preach at various churches in the region.

Philip most recently was a member of Victory Church of Cranberry Township, where he actively volunteered with the security team, the Victory Group and the Help Your Neighbor food distribution program.

He had an affinity for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Penguins and Penn State football, and collecting antique sports cards, sports memorabilia and model trains. Phil also enjoyed deer hunting with his dad, brothers and friends.

Phil is survived by three daughters, Anne Sternart (Zach) of Mount Jackson, Pa., Lauren Gravatte (fiancé Sean Linnen) of Hermitage and Kathryn Peters of Sharpsville; four grandchildren, Lylah and Niko Gravatte, Rebecca Johnson and Liam Peters; three brothers, Mark Peters of Butler, Thomas Peters of Waterville, Pa., and the Rev. Donald Peters, also of Waterville, who will officiate his funeral service; and many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie; and a grandchild, Jamisen Gravatte.

PETERS — Calling hours for Philip L. Peters, who died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at J. BRADLEY MCGONIGLE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.

A private family memorial and graveside burial service will be held on Friday, Dec. 20.

Interment will be at Mount Hermon Union Cemetery, Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County.
