Butler City Council approves 2025 budget with no tax increase
Butler City Council approved the 2025 budget unanimously at the regular meeting on Thursday, Dec. 19, with no tax increase for residents.
The general fund expenditures were finalized around $10.9 million, over $300,000 more than the 2024 budget.
Councilman Don Shearer said the city’s finalized 2025 budget was roughly $20,000 more than the proposed budget, not enough to trigger a full reintroduction.
The difference was due to a last-minute tentative agreement made with AFSCME Local 757, which is expected to go into effect Jan. 1. According to Shearer, this agreement raises wages of members to match inflation rates.
The next city council meeting is scheduled for Jan. 16.
