State police prepare to file animal cruelty charges against Karns City man

State police plan to file charges against a 64-year-old Karns City man accused of leaving his dog outside of the Butler County Humane Society in freezing cold temperatures late last month.

Police started investigating an incident that took place around 6 p.m. Nov. 26 when a black pickup truck pulling a utility trailer arrived at the humane society, where a male exited and removed a dog cage containing a dog from the trailer.

According to the police report, the dog was left in front of the humane society and remained there until 7 a.m. when staff arrived and discovered the animal.

After receiving tips regarding the identity of the individual, police located and interviewed the man on Dec. 13. During that interview, he admitted to leaving his dog at the humane society.

According to police, the dog is alive and well in the care of the county humane society staff.

In an email to the Butler Eagle, state police said they are not releasing the man’s name yet because they “don’t have confirmation that the charges have been filed.”
