Police: 1 cited, 2 injured, seven students evaluated in Summit Township bus crash
Two students were taken to a hospital and seven others were evaluated for injuries by emergency medical services following a crash Thursday afternoon, Dec. 19, between a school bus and two other vehicles in Summit Township.
The school bus was carrying 42 students when it was struck at 3:11 p.m. by a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu that ran a red light at the intersection of Chicora Road and the entrance to Route 422, according to state police.
The driver of the Malibu, Eugene Wranich, 89, of Kittanning was cited following the crash.
Police said Wranich’s vehicle attempted to make a left turn onto the ramp for 422, but struck the school bus in the process. The impact caused front-end damage to Wranich’s vehicle, which then rotated 45 degrees.
A 2018 Honda HRV, driven by Zachary Fedokovitz, 28, of East Brady, was unable to stop in time, striking the Chevrolet Malibu, police said. This impact caused rear-damage to the Malibu and front-end damage to the HRV.
The report from state police indicated that Wranich was possibly injured, but was not taken to a hospital. Fedokovitz and the driver of the bus, Steven Hovis, 58, of East Brady, were both uninjured, according to the report.
Of the 42 students, ages 9 to 18, two were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital while another seven were evaluated by EMS and released at the scene.
The crash was reported near the intersection of Chicora and Oneida Valley roads Thursday at 3:11 p.m.
Earlier Thursday, another bus carrying Butler Area School District students was involved in a crash at around 6:50 a.m. in Center Township.
