Mobile unit to serve community every Tuesday

Primary Health Network will have a mobile unit in Emlenton every Tuesday starting Jan. 7, to provide service to the community that lost its only healthcare provider in October.

A Friday, Dec. 20, news release from PHN said the mobile unit will be stationed at the former Emlenton Area Family Practice location, 516 Main Street, to offer essential medical services until a more permanent infrastructure solution is found.

The UPMC family practice that previously had the location moved out in October. The space, managed by Emlenton Area Medical Corporation, had a practice in the facility for 40 years, according to the corporation’s president Barbara Warden. UPMC absorbed the practice that was in the space around 2000.

UPMC opted not to renew its lease when it was set to expire at the end of October. Warden said the corporation administrators hope to see PHN eventually move into the space.

“They're starting with the mobile unit and hoping to eventually occupy the space there,” Warden said. “This is all new, new to us as well, and we're very excited about the cooperation between the two groups.”

The services provided by PHN’s mobile unit will include primary care services, minor sick visits and medication management and education. The mobile health unit is fully equipped to offer comprehensive care, ensuring individuals and families can access healthcare in a familiar and convenient location, the news release said.

The news release from PHN said the agency accepts a wide range of managed care plans, processes various insurance providers and offers a Sliding Fee Discount for eligible patients.

“We're very pleased,” Warden said. “I know the people in the area will be glad to have medical care rather than having to drive 20 miles for it.”

Individuals seeking an appointment with the mobile unit can call 724-704-4358 to schedule a time for care. For more information about Primary Health Network and its services, visit primary-health.net.
