Elder

Cindy Elder, 70, of West Sunbury, passed away the afternoon of Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024, while under the care of UPMC Shadyside.

Cindy, a mother, grandmother, sister and wife, was born on Sept. 27, 1954, in Mercer County, to her parents, Earl and Dorothy (Hedglin) Knight.

Cindy was retired and enjoyed spending her time cooking and baking for family, making chocolates for her friends, playing cards and watching the deer that came nightly for their corn “dinner.”

She is survived by her husband, Dale Elder; two daughters, Stacy Henry of Grove City and Tiffany (John) Dunworth of Mercer; one son, Justin “Jesse” Henry of Grove City; two stepdaughters, Melissa (Ryan) Shearer of Clay Township and Heather (Travis) Altmire of Eau Claire; six grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Linda Haggerty of Greenville; and brother, Jerry Knight of Harrisville; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard (Ricky), Eugene (Gene) and James (Jimmy) Knight; and one sister, Naomi Dulaney.

ELDER — Per her last wishes, there will be a small private funeral for Cindy Elder, who died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024, for immediate family members only. Burial was held privately in West Sunbury Union Cemetery.

Friends and extended family will be invited to celebrate Cindy’s life in an event to be scheduled in summer 2025.

The Young family of WILLIAM F. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, West Sunbury, has assisted the Elder family with arrangements.
