Helen S. Carmichael, a 30-year resident of Penn Mar Plaza in Mars, celebrated her 100th birthday on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the home alongside her four children. She will officially turn 100 years old on Dec. 23.

Carmichael also has eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Carmichael inspected Glider Wings during the World War II years at the H.J. Heinz plant in Pittsburgh. She was also active in community life at Penn Mar, participating in skits and in preparing meals in the kitchen.
