Three Butler girls wrestlers medaled at Sunday’s Pine-Richland Ram Slam tournament, helping the Golden Tornado place 7th out of 32 teams at the event.

Anastasia Manchester (136 lbs.) finished second after pinfall wins over Avella’s Kady Cass, Mt. Lebanon’s Hannah Periera-Weil and Trinity’s Lynsey Ashby. Manchester (5-1) lost in the same manner against Laurel’s Maggie Alfera.

Monica Osborne (235 lbs.) beat Pine-Richland’s Ruth Hartzell and finished fourth after defeats to Fort LeBoeuf’s Josie Fortin and Zahra Al-Zamly.

Kaitlynn Plopi (142 lbs.) went 4-1 on the day, beating Trinity’s Brailyn Mitchell, Corry’s Farrah Fourspring, North Allegheny’s Ava Anthony — all by pinfall — and Trinity’s Alexia Ashby by a 9-4 decison. Plopi is 5-2 on the season.

Brin Zehmisch (118 lbs.) and Olivia Hageman (170 lbs.) both placed sixth after reaching the placement round.

Boys Basketball

Jason Fredericks posted 34 points as North Catholic overcame a 5-point early-fourth quarter hole to beat Seton LaSalle 70-61 at Bishop Canevin High School on Monday night.

The Trojans outscored the Rebels 25-11 in the final frame. Jude Rottmann added 11 points for North.

Hockey

Butler’s Aden Devore scored 1 minute, 44 seconds into the second period, but North Catholic’s Beckett Dunn evened matters later in the period and Anthony Neely netted the winner in a 2-1 decision at Frozen Pond Arena on Monday night.

The Golden Tornado (2-10) out-shot the Trojans (10-3) 30-16 in the defeat. Butler visits Mars on Jan. 6, while North Catholic travels to West Allegheny the same night.
