Butler man charged with fleeing police by car and foot
A Butler man was arrested Friday, Dec. 20, after crashing his car into a parked vehicle on West Diamond Street and attempting to run from police, according to police.
Damian Jamar Blystone, 21, was charged with attempting to flee police officers while committing multiple traffic violations, as well as driving under the influence of marijuana.
According to the affidavit, a state police officer was on patrol on West Wayne Street as a Mazda sedan was traveling without any rear lights. The trooper began following the car and activated the cruiser’s siren. Police said the Mazda traveled through multiple stop signs, didn’t signal any turns and was being driven recklessly.
Eventually, the car turned onto West Diamond Street, where it crashed into the parked vehicle before stopping at a dead end, according to the affidavit.
Police said Blystone then got out of the car, attempted to run from police and a container of suspected marijuana fell onto the ground. Blystone was caught and taken into custody after running into a wooded area.
Blystone told police he had smoked marijuana earlier in the night, and a strong odor was coming from Blystone’s car, according to the affidavit.
Blystone faces two third-degree felony charges as well as multiple misdemeanors relating to his attempt to avoid arrest, driving while impaired and careless driving. His bail was set at $75,000, and he is being held at Butler County Prison.
