Police: Man facing attempted homicide of brother in Butler Township Christmas Eve shooting

A 22-year-old man has been charged with attempted homicide after shooting his brother on Christmas Eve in Butler Township, police said in charging documents available Thursday, Dec. 26.

Logan Rapsinski, 22, of Butler, was arrested after police say he shot his 27-year-old brother in the groin. The shooting occurred at around 10:19 p.m. Dec. 24 in the 100 block of Crosslands Road before Rapsinski fled the scene, according to Butler Township Police.

Police found Rapsinski a short distance away and took him into custody.

Rapsinski was charged Christmas Day with one count of attempted homicide, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of reckless endangerment.

Rapsinski is currently being held in Butler County Prison.

According to the charging documents, Butler Township Police officers found Rapsinski’s brother, Lee, laying on the ground with a gun shot wound to his groin when dispatched to 122 Crosslands Road on Tuesday evening. Lee Rapsinski told police that his brother had shot him.

Logan Rapsinski had recently left their residence in an agitated state, Lee Rapsinski told police, with the family contacting Butler County crisis services for assistance. After driving around and finding him, Lee Rapsinski told police he approached his brother.

According to police, Logan Rapsinski then pulled out a handgun, loaded a round and shot Lee Rapsinski.

Logan Rapsinski was located and taken into custody after he made his own call to 911. Police said officers recovered a Smith & Wesson 380 semi-automatic pistol from the ground near him.

Logan Rapsinski told police that his brother approached him on Crosslands Road and threatened to “beat his (expletive).” Lee Rapsinski was not armed and had nothing in his hands at the time, police said.

Police said Lee Rapsinski asked, “Are you going to shoot me?” before Logan Rapsinski fired a round.

Lee Rapsinski was transported to Allegheny General Hospital for his injury. Police said Thursday that he was in stable condition.
