Thousands of Butler County residents without power Monday morning

More than 2,700 Butler County customers of Central Electric Cooperative are without electricity Monday morning, Dec. 30, and 1,300 Butler County customers of West Penn Power are as well.

The National Weather Service Pittsburgh warned of high winds Sunday night into Monday morning, and the Butler County 911 Center received 46 individual reports of downed power lines from Sunday evening into Monday morning.

A majority of Central Electric customers without power are in Clearfield Township at 1,062, followed by Summit Township with 815. West Penn Power is reporting a majority of customers without power are in Brady Township, with more than 250 customers, followed by Clay Township, with 233.

West Penn Power said severe weather is the cause for many of the power outages in Butler County, and crews have been assigned to investigate the outages and restore power. There is no estimate for the power’s return as of 8:30 a.m. Monday morning.
