Buffalo Township rejects all bids for municipal building renovation

Buffalo Township’s plans for the renovation of its municipal building have been put on hold. The township supervisors voted to reject all bids for the new building’s construction during a special meeting Monday, Dec. 23.

According to Supervisor Rich Hill, all bids the township received were higher than what it was willing to pay.

“The bids came in way above … so we decided to scrap that project,” Hill said.

The township initially began advertising bids for the renovation project in October, after having set aside $775,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funding solely for the project. However, according to Hill, all of the bids came in above that mark.

The building renovation had been planned for about a year, and the township had already retained an architect for the project and had several architectural drawings created. The current building, located on Bear Creek Road, houses the offices for both the township and its police department, and most of the planned changes were aimed at addressing the police portion of the building.

Hill said the township is not abandoning the renovation project entirely, but they may have to scale it back.

“We’re still going to do something, but it’s going to be on a smaller scale,” Hill said.
