John ‘Jack’ Riley

John “Jack” Robert Riley, 78, of Slippery Rock, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2024.

He was born in Pittsburgh on April 11, 1946, to Joseph Blaine Riley and Anna Mae Niedermyer.

Jack was a retired union railroad worker, serving 42 years as a conductor for P&LE / CSX Railroad in Pittsburgh. He served as a volunteer firefighter for Mount Oliver Fire Department. He enjoyed his time collecting and playing music, lifting weights, making brandy and wine, and piloting his pontoon boat with family and friends on Slippery Rock Creek.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara, of Slippery Rock; daughter, Erica Riley; son, Blaine (Victoria) Riley; stepdaughter, Melanie (Mark) Stoner; grandchildren, Ethan and Aiden Ryan and Megan, Leah and Rachel Stoner, all of Pittsburgh; siblings, Charles (Pat) Niedermyer, Virginia (Paul) Boisvenue and Patrick (Barbara) Riley; and many nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents.

RILEY — A memorial Mass for John “Jack” Robert Riley, who died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2024, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025, at St. Mary of the Mount Church, 407 Grandview Ave., Pittsburgh. A gathering reception to celebrate Jack's life will follow immediately in the social hall of the church, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
