CENTER TWP — To ring in the new year and sweep out the old, many Butler County residents flocked to their favorite watering holes or celebrated in private at midnight, and some gathered at Steele’s Brushes and Ceramics for a family-friendly celebration.

The Steele’s New Year’s Eve party kicked off at 6 p.m. and drew a full house of revelers of all ages for painting, bingo and free pizza. According to Christine Steele, the owner of the establishment, this marks the third time that Steele’s Brushes and Ceramics has run this New Year’s Eve event.

“It’s a chance for families to come together, and all ages are welcome,” Steele said. “It’s a good chance to bring your kids, or if you want to hang out with your significant other or your friends and you don’t want to go to a busy bar that’s crowded and loud, you have a chance to come here and do some kind of creating.”

In addition to marking New Year’s Eve, two guests at the party celebrated their birthdays, including Donna Bittner.

Bittner turned 75 and brought four family members with her — daughter Dawn, granddaughter Ashley, grandson David, and great-grandson Carter — along with her friend Linda.

“I don't like my birthday being on New Year’s Eve. It’s too close to Christmas,” Bittner joked, “but I love being here for my birthday tonight.”
