High school roundup: Amelia McMichael’s double-double powers Butler girls basketball; Karns City smothers DuBois

Butler’s girls basketball team shook off the frustration of back-to-back losses by dominating host Woodland Hills 60-31 Thursday.

The Golden Tornado (7-3, 2-0) featured several standout individual efforts, led by Amelia McMichael’s double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Sydney Patterson tallied 12 points and nine assists and Avery Maier 13 points.

Karns City 46, DuBois Area 17 — The struggling Beavers (2-10) received no reprieve against the host Gremlins, who led 43-15 after three quarters.

Naomi Venesky netted 10 points for KC (9-1), all in the first half, and Hannah Summerville scored nine.

North Catholic 47, Burrell 24 — North’s defense allowed just four points in the first half. Brady Wehner scored 11 points for the Trojanettes (8-2, 4-0).

Freeport 56, Valley 42 — The Yellowjackets (3-8, 2-2) earned this section victory on the road. No other details were available.
