Moraine, McConnells Mill state parks open 2025 with packed schedule
Butler County’s beloved state parks — Moraine and McConnells Mill — are kicking off 2025 with a host of events in January and February.
Jan. 8 — Moraine State Park will host a Winter Hike at 1 p.m. along the North Country Trail, which will take participants from the McDanel’s Boat Launch parking lot, underneath Route 422 and across Muddy Creek on a 3-mile path. Participants are advised to dress appropriately and bring both water and a snack.
Jan. 15 — Get a lesson in forestry and tree identification during “Winter Tree ID” at McConnells Mill State Park at 1 p.m., as staff from DCNR lead a guided walk through the grassy areas of the park. Participants meet at the Kildoo Pavilion. Be sure to dress for the weather.
Jan. 20 — A second Winter Hike is planned at Moraine State Park at 1 p.m. along a 3-mile portion of the North Country Trail; this one takes hikers along the Hidden River Bridge starting from the North Country trailhead. Participants are advised to dress appropriately and bring water and a snack.
Feb. 8 — An annual Moraine State Park tradition, Winterfest 2025 comes to town for one day only. Entry is free starting at 11 a.m., and the event promises food and craft vendors, live music, artistic demonstrations and so much more.
