State police recently reported that 495 crashes and 138 DUI arrests occurred during the 2024 Christmas travel period.

The period, defined as Dec. 24 to 26, saw 27 crashes related to impaired driving. Police also reported one fatal crash.

While the number of crashes during the travel period had risen compared to 2023, from 411 to 495, other statistics fell significantly. DUI crashes fell from 36 to 27, DUI arrests from 200 to 138 and speeding citations from 1,040 to 720.

Butler County’s coverage under Troop D saw nine total crashes, the least amount between all 16 troops. Troop D also issued the least amount of speeding citations at eight total.

The data reported by state police only covers what was personally investigated, and does not factor incidents from more local law enforcement.
