Bernadette A. “Bernie” Huefner, 88, of Franklin, died peacefully at 1:35 a.m., Monday, Dec. 30, 2024, at The Caring Place in Franklin, following a period of declining health.

Born May 11, 1936, in Chicora, she was one of 12 children of the late Frank A. and Mary A. (Black) Knoll.

Bernadette was a 1954 graduate of Karns City High School and went on to earn her nursing degree from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh in 1957. She had worked as a registered nurse at the former Franklin Regional Medical Center for 39½ years, until she retired in 2000.

On June 25, 1960, Bernadette was married to Charles Peter “Pete” Huefner at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Chicora. The wedding was officiated by Bernie’s brother, Father Charles Knoll, OFM Cap. Her husband, Pete, preceded her in death on April 4, 2006. The couple shared 45 years of marriage together.

Bernie was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Church in Franklin.

She is survived by three sons, Kevin Jerome Huefner of Virginia, Gregory Charles Huefner and his wife, Lisa Wallace, of Yakima, Wash. and Peter Francis Huefner and his wife, Janelle, of Powell, Ohio; and by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth “Betsy” Ahn and her husband, Jaimo, of Atlanta; in addition to nine grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, Father Lester Knoll, OFM Cap., of Pittsburgh; a sister, Donna E. “Betty” Neff of Butler; and by her sisters-in-law, Patricia Knoll of Butler, Toni Knoll of Chicora and Annamarie Knoll of Chicora; and many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Father Charles Knoll, OFM Cap., John E. Knoll, Thomas G. Knoll, Donald E. “Ed” Knoll and by an infant brother; four sisters, Agnes P. Pfaff, Mary T. Geibel, Monica D. Glynn and Rita C. Barnhart; and by four brothers-in-law, John Pfaff, George “Pete” Geibel, Paul Glynn and Tom Neff.

HUEFNER — In keeping with her wishes, there will be no public visitation for Bernadette A. “Bernie” Huefner, who died Monday, Dec. 30, 2024.

Family and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian burial, at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, at St. Patrick Church, 949 Liberty St., Franklin, with Father James C. Campbell, pastor, officiating. Immediately following Mass, all are welcome for a luncheon and time of fellowship in Cenedella Hall at the former St. Patrick School.

Private interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, if desired, may be directed to St. Patrick Church.
