Tennessee man facing hundreds of child sexual abuse charges in Butler County

A Tennessee man is fighting extradition to Butler County to face more than 600 charges of alleged sexual abuse of a child.

Harold J. Stahlman, 44, of Greeneville, Tenn., was arrested Thursday in Greene County, Tenn., but did not agree to be extradited to Butler County, said Greene County Sheriff Wesley Holt. He said an extradition hearing will be held Monday for Stahlman.

State police in Butler on Monday filed 609 felony and misdemeanor charges of indecent assault, unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of minors charges against Stahlman.

A woman told police that Stahlman sexually assaulted her beginning when she was 8 years old in 2011 to December of 2020 when she was age 17 at a home in Slippery Rock Township, according to an affidavit.

Two state troopers accompanied deputy sheriffs Thursday when Stahlman was arrested on a warrant from Butler County, Holt said. He said the governors of Pennsylvania and Tennessee could agree to a governor’s warrant that would allow Stahlman to be brought to Butler County.
