William ‘Chewy’ Throckmorton Sr.

William Edward “Chewy” Throckmorton Sr., 77, of Zelienople, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024, while under the care of Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born July 13, 1947, in Huntingdon, Pa., he was the son of the late George D. and Evelyn Daugherty Throckmorton.

Chewy is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Denise, whom he married on March 16, 1990; his son, William Jr.; his daughter, Julie (Brendan) McKoen; his stepdaughter, Jennie (Brett) Walker; his granddaughters, Raina and Shae McKoen; his cat, Walter; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Chewy was preceded in death by his half sisters, Helen (Bob) Rutherford and Joyce (Don) Goss; and several nieces and nephews.

Chewy proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps. from 1965 to 1969, serving three tours of duty in Vietnam. Afterward, he joined the Air Force Reserve in 1977, serving until his retirement in 1996. He worked as a truck driver and at the bulk mail center in Warrendale, from which he retired.

Chewy enjoyed riding his Harleys and attending veterans events, such as Rolling Thunder in Washington D.C.; participating in ABATE events; serving in the honor guard with the Zelienople American Legion; and helping friends and family.

He was a member of the Harmony Moose, the Zelienople American Legion Post 474, the VFW, the Hungarian Club, ABATE, the American Legion Riders and the Patriot Guard Riders. Chewy also enjoyed his ginger brandy and his 2XIPAs. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.

THROCKMORTON — A memorial service will be held in honor of William Edward “Chewy” Throckmorton Sr., who died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024, at noon Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025, at the Zelienople American Legion, 308 W. New Castle St., Zelienople.

He will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honor to DAV — Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 1430, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301, or donate online at www.dav.org; or you can donate to the veteran’s charity of your choice.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.
