Pope Francis not wise to point finger

Geno Mariotti wrote, “Pope Francis addressed the destructive obsession of those amassing great wealth, ‘It is the sickness of rich fools … who believe themselves superior to others, rather than at their service.’” (Dec. 29, page A4)

Jesus said, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; … For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21

The Pope's statement about “rich fools” speaks volumes. The Vatican profits from tourism, real estate, precious metals, artifacts, art, businesses and financial investments.

The Vatican's total assets are in the billions and it pays no taxes on dividends.

The Pope doesn't directly manage this wealth, but he guides how it is used.

In Matthew 25:34-36, we learn Jesus compared taking care of others with taking care of him.

The Pope undoubtedly assists with caring for others. But is he exempt from his comments?

Can anyone who controls billions in assets point a finger at anyone else? If so, how many billions exempt someone from those three fingers pointing back at the one pointing at others?

Some people serve without obsession with riches. We know the truth of Matthew 25:40: “And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’” And so we do.
