College roundup: Portersville Christian grad gets PAC award; SRU basketball sweeps Pitt-Johnstown

Issy Green, a Portersville Christian graduate from Slippery Rock, was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference women’s basketball newcomer of the week.

The Thiel College freshman guard averaged 24.5 points in two games last week against Pitt-Greensburg (also recording seven steals, four rebounds and three assists in that game) and Grove City College (five boards, three steals, two assists).

Green ranks third in the conference with 2.8 steals per game.

SRU men down Pitt-Johnstown

Jomo Goings had 22 points, Maceo Austin 21 and Day Waters 20 as Slippery Rock University’s men’s basketball team beat Pitt-Johnstown 90-74 at home Monday night.

The Rock (9-6, 6-2 PSAC West) shot 50% from the field on the night and poured in 46 points in the paint.

Rock women get back in win column

Regan Atkins totaled 24 points and Sophia Hook had 21 to help Slippery Rock University’s women’s hoops team to a 71-58 home victory over Pitt-Johnstown.

Kayley Joseph-Bernard had 13 points and eight boards for the Rock (6-7, 4-4 PSAC West).
