Willis R. “Ace” Bortmas Jr., 81, of Hooker, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 5, 2025, at his home.

He was born Sept. 23, 1943, in Butler, and was the son of the late Willis R. Bortmas Sr. and late Jennie W. (Deemer) Bortmas.

Ace was a proud veteran of the United States Navy serving aboard the USS Shangri-La CVA-38. He retired from Armco Steel and was a member of the West Sunbury American Legion Post 243. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, and going camping with his wife and his grandchildren, to whom he proudly and lovingly gave nicknames.

Ace is survived by his wife, Doris L. (Anderson) Bortmas, whom he married on July 2, 1981; three sons, Willis R. (Sandy) Bortmas III of Butler, Wesley Ray (Lori) Bortmas of Rochester and Wayne Richard (Laura) Bortmas of Butler; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, William Bortmas of West Sunbury, Donald (Sarah) Bortmas of Butler and Ronald Bortmas of Butler; a sister-in-law, Millie Bortmas of Marienville; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and one brother.

BORTMAS — Family and friends of Willis R. “Ace” Bortmas Jr., who died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025, will be received for visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025, at WILLIAM F. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 132 Main St., West Sunbury.

Services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with military honors provided by Butler VFW Post 249, Lyndora Legion Post 778 and Butler American Legion Post 117.
