Driver hospitalized after crash in Center Township
CENTER TWP — The driver of an SUV has been taken to Butler Memorial Hospital following a one-vehicle accident on Oneida Valley Road on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
The accident was reported shortly after 1 p.m. after a red Ford SUV failed to negotiate a curve and struck a tree, which ended up falling onto the road and partially blocking traffic.
“The car went off the bank, hit the tree and ended up facing southbound in the northbound berm,” said Mike Pflugh, chief of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Department. “The tree was partially blocking the road.”
The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital. While scanner reports initially indicated the driver was bleeding from the head, Pflugh said the injuries he suffered “appeared to be minor.” No other vehicles were involved.
Traffic on Oneida Valley Road was reduced to one-lane, alternating traffic while emergency crews were on the scene.
In addition to Unionville, volunteer fire departments from Oneida Valley and Center Township responded to the scene, along with Butler Ambulance Service and state police.
Pflugh was not willing to speculate on what led to the accident.
