Sled rider OK after colliding with vehicle driven by police in Clay Township

A vehicle being driven by a Butler Township police officer collided with a 10-year-old boy riding a sled around 2:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, on Dingel Road in Clay Township, leaving the sled rider with minor injuries.

According to state police, the sled rider was riding down his driveway on Dingel Road and was unable to stop before entering the roadway, where a Ford Explorer, driven by Max Wittlinger, a Butler Township police detective, was traveling west. State police said the sled struck the vehicle’s back left, and the sledder suffered minor injuries.

The sled rider was cleared by EMS at the scene, according to police.

In addition to state police, Unionville Volunteer Fire Company, West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department and North Washington Volunteer Fire Department were called to the scene. The incident was terminated after about 10 minutes.
