Titusville post office to be renamed after American oil baron

A bill sponsored by U.S. Mike Kelly, R-16th, was signed into law Saturday paving the way for the U.S. Post Office in Titusville, Crawford County, to be officially renamed after pioneering U.S. businessman Edwin Drake.

Drake pioneered the now-modern methods of drilling for oil with his “drive pipe,” doing so in 1859 in Titusville.

“Edwin Drake’s discovery led to a revolution that transformed the world and put Titusville and the Oil Region in the history books,” Rep. Kelly said. “Now, I am proud to cement his legacy in our nation’s history with this honor.”

Kelly was also instrumental in renaming the Post Office in Butler after Civil War veteran Andrew Gomer Williams.
