Beaver County woman charged with armed robbery of Zelienople gas station

Police filed charges Thursday, Jan. 9, against a New Brighton woman in relation to an armed robbery of a Zelienople gas station.

Police say on Jan. 3, Andrea Carney, 45, of New Brighton, Beaver County, stole money with a gun stolen from Ohio from the Sunoco gas station at 119 N. Main St. before fleeing on foot to a vehicle parked nearby.

Carney is facing seven felony charges: robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a prohibited firearm, firearms not to be carried without a license, theft by unlawful taking, and two counts of receiving stolen property. She also is charged with three misdemeanors: terroristic threats, reckless endangerment and simple assault.

According to police, Carney entered the gas station with a gun in hand at about 2:35 p.m. Police were told she entered the building, placed the gun on the counter and said, “Give me the money. All of it, now. Don’t press any buttons.”

Upon receiving the money from the cash register, police said, Carney stole the money from the skill game machines, too.

Officers responding to the call searched the area for someone who matched the given description but could not locate that person.

Footage was provided by gas station employees, according to police, showing an individual in a jacket placing a gun on the counter and demanding the money from the register.

Police said they reviewed footage showing the suspect fleeing on foot before getting into a vehicle registered under Carney’s name. Police asked authorities in Butler, Allegheny and Beaver counties to search for the vehicle.

City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police contacted Zelienople authorities Friday evening, reporting the vehicle was spotted parked along Fifth Avenue.

Authorities obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and located a jacket and gun in the trunk of the car, according to police. Search warrants for Carney’s phone are pending.

Butler County Prison stated that Carney is detained. A preliminary hearing was not scheduled as of Thursday.
