Gerre Slaughenhoupt
Gerre N. Slaughenhoupt, 93, of Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Sligo, Pa., formerly of Parker, passed away at 5:04 a.m. Wednesday morning, Jan. 8, 2025, at the Center following a period of declining health.
Born in Sligo, on Feb. 27, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Margaret Snyder Wagner.
She resided in the Parker area most of her life, and on Oct. 11, 1952, she married Richard A. Slaughenhoupt. He preceded her in passing on June 20, 2020.
Gerre was a long-term member of the former Parker Methodist Church where she was church organist for several decades. She was also a constituent member of the former Foxburg Methodist Church where she served as organist, for again, several decades. She was an organist for many churches over the years, not only serving at church services, but playing the music for both weddings and funerals. She participated at the Queenstown Church hymn sings, a favorite to do those services.
She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 60, formerly of Parker, now of Clarion, and was a member of the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
Gerre retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1991 with 21 years of service.
She was an avid knitter and a member of the Knit Wit Club of Perryville. She was a lover of pets and flower gardens, and she was a gifted quilting and sewing perfectionist — winning many ribbons for both.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Mahood of Parker and Edith (Larry) Adams of Foxburg; one son, Alan Slaughenhoupt of Emlenton; granddaughters, Maggie (Rich) Chandler and Sara (Steve) Dixon; grandson, Joshua Slaughenhoupt; great-grandchildren, Ava Chandler and Eric Clinger; and a very close and special cousin, Joey Ann Mostowy.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Don Mahood.
