Police: Man drove wrong way on Route 8 prior to arrest

Police say a Butler man drove the wrong direction on Route 8 in Penn Township on Sunday morning before he was arrested at a gas station parking lot, according to charges filed Monday, Jan. 6.

James John Ford, 41, was charged with felony manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to deliver; three misdemeanors, including driving under the influence; and seven summary charges, including reckless driving.

State police said they received a report that a black Hyundai Sonata had crossed “all lanes of travel” without using a turn signal and driven at inconsistent speeds while traveling north along Route 8 in Penn Township.

Police observed the driver and followed him into the Sheetz parking lot, where the vehicle pulled up next to a gas pump, but parked too far away to pump gas, according to the complaint.

Upon searching Ford, the police said they found more than 120 stamp bags of suspected heroin, along with suspected crack cocaine.

Ford was placed in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $30,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday.
