College roundup: Slippery Rock women’s basketball survives; Maceo Austin powers SRU men to rout

Slippery Rock women’s basketball narrowly beat Lake Erie 60-56 Saturday at home.

SRU (7-8) turned around a 10-point first-half deficit to win its first non-conference game since Nov. 16. Alyssa Gillin had a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Sophia Hook sank five 3-pointers for 17 points and a career-high eight rebounds and three steals.

Regan Atkins scored 10 points and grabbed seven boards.

SRU men’s basketball routs PSU-Kensington

Maceo Austin led The Rock with 23 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and three assists in Saturday’s 102-66 blowout victory at home.

SRU (10-7) won its eighth in its last nine.

Ike Herster (21 points), Day Waters (15), Mack Staunch (14) and Bobby Clifford (13) scored in double figures.

Louisville snaps Pitt MBB’s home streak

Pitt men’s basketball’s 15-game winning streak at the Petersen Events Center ended Saturday in an 82-78 loss to ACC rival Louisville.

Jaland Lowe led the Panthers (12-4, 3-2) with 24 points and six assists, and reserve Damian Dunn contributed 15 points, eight rebounds and three assists.
