Karns City cheerleading won the District 9 large school division championship Saturday, beating DuBois.

It’s the first district title for the Gremlins since 2018, head coach Krista Ritzert said. Ritzert also said the team won the overall D9 championship with the most points.

“We had an excellent routine yesterday and we were very excited,” Ritzert said Sunday.

Union/A-C Valley was crowned the co-ed division champion.

KC, in Class 2A, and UAC advance to the PIAA championships held Jan. 30-31 at Santander Arena in Reading.

The two schools will join three other Butler County teams at states: Butler, Mars and Seneca Valley, which all qualified in the WPIAL championships last week.

Out of nine District 9 schools, six advanced to states, including Elk County Catholic, Punxsutawney, Redbank Valley and DuBois.
