New York-based grocery chain Wegmans will be entering the Western Pennsylvania market with a location in Butler County.

The company announced Monday, Jan. 13, that it will be opening a store that will be located on Cool Springs Drive in the Cranberry Springs development near the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.

Wegmans says it will be situated on 13 acres of land with approximately 115,000 square feet of storefront space.

A timeline for construction and opening has not yet been determined, but the company said it will need to hire between 400 to 500 employees for the store, with the majority hired locally.

Wegmans Food Market has 19 locations in Pennsylvania, with some in the Erie and State College areas, but it has not expanded into the Pittsburgh region.

The company has more than 50,000 employees who serve millions of customers at stores across eight states and Washington, D.C., according to its website.
